According to Matteo Moretto, Gerry Cardinale is still working on improving Milan’s club structure, with Markus Krösche remaining a name to watch.

Milan are coming off a summer of radical change. Shortly after the loss against Cagliari on the final day of the season, and consequent failure to qualify for the Champions League, head coach Massimiliano Allegri, chairman Giorgio Furlani, sporting director Igli Tare and technical director Geoffrey Moncada were all relieved of their duties at the club.

While this appeared to be a response to Milan’s failure to reach its goals that season, there were indications that the club was set to undergo significant on a structural level as early as in December. Gerry Cardinale made allusions to it himself in an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport in May.

In the end, despite the vacancies created by the mass dismissals after the end of last season, Milan would make no external hires to their internal structure last summer. Massimo Calvelli from the club’s board was promoted to Milan chairman, and Hendrik Almstadt and Bobby Gardiner, two of the leading names from the club’s scouting department, saw their roles increased.

Ruben Amorim was recruited as new head coach, and it has heavily been reported that his role at Milan is more akin to that of a manager – he has referred to himself as the “manager” of Milan – and former scout Tiago Estêvão has returned to the club as head of recruitment, but the sporting director and technical director roles remain vacant.

Moretto: Markus Krösche still an option for Milan

One of the names most prominently linked with Milan last summer was Markus Krösche, currently sporting CEO of Eintracht Frankfurt. Krösche’s move to Milan was reported to nearly be a done deal, but difficulties arose as he was under contract at Eintracht Frankfurt, and the club didn’t want to let him go. In the end, Krösche would stay in Frankfurt, and Milan would opt for an alternative solution to their management structure.

On the other hand, this saga may yet to be concluded. In the months that have followed the breakdown of Markus Krösche’s move to Milan, there have been several reports of a strained relationship between Krösche and Eintracht Frankfurt. In August, Bild reported that Krösche could leave the club following the end of the summer transfer window.

Earlier today, Matteo Moretto reported that Gerry Cardinale is still working on Milan’s club structure. According to this report, Markus Krösche remains a profile that is of interest to Milan.
