Santiago Giménez looks set to sign for FC Porto on a loan deal with the option to buy.

Santiago Giménez is one of the Milan players who has most frequently been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Although he was supposed to be the answers to Milan’s long-running striker problems when he arrived for a hefty fee in January, 2025, Giménez has had a difficult time at Milan, struggling with injuries and having a particularly poor 2025–26 season, scoring zero goals in Serie A.

Giménez was strongly linked with a move away from the club as soon as the final days of the 2025 summer transfer window, but his strong desire to stay at Milan contributed to the club’s decision not to sell him. After a season with no league goals, however, Milan’s patience had run out, and they have been pushing to find a solution for Giménez for numerous months.

Giménez has primarily been linked with Lazio and Porto this summer, and at several points it has been reported that a move to Porto has practically been sealed, only to be followed by a twist in the story. However, now everything has been agreed between the clubs, as well as between Giménez and Porto.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Porto will sign Giménez on a free one-year loan, and will have the option to sign him permanently for 18 million euros, with up to two million euros in potential bonuses. This option will become mandatory for Porto upon certain conditions being fulfilled.
