Ivan Zazzaroni breaks down Milan’s current situation in the Corriere dello Sport

Massimiliano Allegri and Igli Tare – head coach and sporting director of AC Milan – are the two men who have steered the Rossoneri revival from the ashes of last season’s collapse, bringing the team back into contention for a top Serie A spot. Yet spring’s arrival has coincided with a visible dip in form. Today, Corriere dello Sport editor Ivan Zazzaroni paints the picture of Milan’s current state – and the internal tensions that seem to dominate discussions within the club.

Smoke and mirrors: the coach’s role

The game played by sections of the Italian press – and by some of football’s political operators – has been clear all along. After the national team’s latest disappointment, names like Antonio Conte, Massimiliano Allegri, and even Pep Guardiola were immediately thrown into the ring as possible new Italy managers. It’s a familiar story: the coach is seen as both the problem and the solution. When things need fixing, it’s cheaper to replace him than an entire squad; when results dip, the same logic applies. It’s a well-known pattern in Italian football and one that triggers debates even before real situations take shape – especially now, with the FIGC still awaiting a new president and direction.

Allegri and Tare: shared destinies at Milanello

Since arriving at Milanello, Allegri has rebuilt from the fractures of a divided and often absent boardroom, reviving enthusiasm throughout the club’s environment. According to Zazzaroni, CEO Furlani, together with Zlatan Ibrahimović and Geoffrey Moncada, would almost welcome a coaching change – partly due to pressure from above to appoint someone capable of restoring what’s been missing for years. The result: growing distance between the management team and Milanello’s technical area, and a background tension everyone in the club can feel.

Alongside Allegri is Igli Tare, who joined last summer to bring authority and experience to Milan’s sporting structure. He found a club still in flux – but pushed forward out of duty and, yes, lifelong passion for the Rossoneri colors.

The scenarios if Allegri leaves

According to Zazzaroni, the main names emerging as potential replacements are Gian Piero Gasperini and Vincenzo Italiano. Both could become available depending on how their current club situations evolve – and that, in turn, could set off a chain reaction. Should Allegri depart, and with Tare’s position also uncertain, Milan could find itself needing to rebuild two key pillars at the same time.
