AC Milan consider internal solution as sporting director search drags on
AC Milan’s search for a new sporting director, and potentially a Head of Football, continues to drag on, with the Rossoneri still struggling to finalise the appointment of the figure who will oversee the club’s transfer strategy and squad building under new head coach Ruben Amorim.
The situation surrounding Markus Krosche remains unresolved. Milan are reportedly still attempting to convince Eintracht Frankfurt to release the German executive, although the chances of reaching an agreement currently appear slim.
With the summer transfer window approaching and key decisions still pending, the club is now evaluating a temporary internal solution.
Matteo Moretto reveals AC Milan’s contingency plan
Speaking through Fabrizio Romano’s WhatsApp channel, Matteo Moretto provided an update on the current situation inside the Rossoneri hierarchy.
“The first piece of news is now official: Francesco Camarda has returned to AC Milan through a buy-back clause worth slightly more than €500,000.
However, Milan still need to restructure their sporting department. In recent hours, a scenario has gained traction internally: Jovan Kirovski, who currently oversees Milan Futuro, and Bobby Gardiner, the club’s Head of Performance Analytics, could temporarily take on greater responsibilities while the club continues its search for senior executives.
The fact that many clubs are reluctant to release their sporting directors during this stage of the transfer window has increased the likelihood of an interim internal solution. Further updates are expected in the coming days.”
Who are Jovan Kirovski and Bobby Gardiner?
Jovan Kirovski currently oversees Milan Futuro and has played a central role in the club’s youth development structure.
Bobby Gardiner, meanwhile, works as AC Milan’s Head of Performance Analytics. During the previous season, he collaborated closely with Igli Tare and has reportedly been heavily involved in the process that led to Ruben Amorim’s appointment.
According to reports, Gardiner recently met Amorim and strongly supported the Portuguese coach’s candidacy during internal discussions.
Kirovski licensing issue could complicate plans
While Kirovski’s name has emerged as a possible temporary solution, there may be a significant obstacle.
According to Corriere della Sera, Kirovski does not currently possess the required sporting director licence needed to officially perform the role in Italy.
The report claims that he never completed the university course required to obtain the qualification during the previous academic year.
As a result, even if AC Milan decided to entrust him with sporting director duties, he would not be able to formally hold the position under current regulations.
Time becoming a factor for AC Milan
After repeatedly insisting that it would not allow external circumstances to dictate its timeline, AC Milan’s ownership is now becoming increasingly aware of the risks associated with further delays.
The absence of a clearly defined sporting leadership structure could complicate transfer negotiations, squad planning and communication with current players during one of the most important periods of the year.
For that reason, the possibility of an interim internal structure is becoming increasingly realistic while the club continues to pursue its preferred external candidates.
The coming days could prove decisive in determining whether AC Milan accelerate their pursuit of Markus Krosche or move forward with a temporary in-house solution.
