Gimenez-Porto Deal Stalls: Milan rejects the new conditions
Alongside their important incoming moves, AC Milan’s transfer activity remains very busy on the outgoing front, including the situation surrounding Santiago Gimenez.
As Fabrizio Romano reported yesterday, Porto, following the sale of Rodrigo Mora to Roma, confirmed to the Rossoneri that they would soon submit an official offer based on a loan with an option to buy.
After days of continuous verbal discussions, the negotiations had finally reached a crucial stage, but the two sides have encountered a setback in recent hours.
An agreement between the Portuguese club and the player has already been reached, and Francesco Farioli is pushing strongly to bring the Mexican forward into his squad. However, the deal has encountered an obstacle in recent hours that is currently preventing an agreement from being reached.
The main issue concerns the formula proposed by Porto. The Portuguese club has changed its terms, and Milan have not particularly welcomed the new conditions.
Porto’s proposal is a loan with an option to buy, but the terms are considered too favourable to the Portuguese club and too low by the Rossoneri. According to several reports, the deal would involve a free loan with a relatively low buy option.
This is not a solution that convinces Milan, who want greater protection in the deal.
The Rossoneri management are under no pressure to sell. A paid loan with a significant fee and a higher buy option, or a conditional obligation to buy, could instead represent the ideal solutions.
There’s confidence that the deal could go on
For now, the deal has not collapsed, but it has hit a stumbling block. Talks between the two clubs are continuing, and there is confidence that a compromise can be found, especially given Gimenez’s desire to move to Porto and Farioli’s strong push to make the transfer happen.
The distance between the two sides therefore mainly concerns the financial structure of the deal. Milan do not want to offer excessively favourable conditions to the Portuguese club and are demanding stronger guarantees regarding the eventual purchase.
The coming hours of the transfer window will be crucial in determining whether the two sides can move closer together and turn a currently stalled negotiation into a definitive agreement.
