Romano and Moretto provide an update on the Mexican striker following the completion of the Rodrigo Mora-Roma deal
Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto have provided an update on the situation surrounding Santiago Gimenez.
FC Porto are becoming increasingly serious about signing Santiago Gimenez. Following last night’s completion of the sale of Rodrigo Mora to Roma, the Portuguese club are now ready to put in writing the proposal they had already presented to AC Milan in recent days: a free loan with an option to buy.
This is the update that came overnight from Fabrizio Romano and Matteo Moretto in a video published on Romano’s YouTube channel.
“The overnight update on Santiago Gimenez is that Porto, after selling Rodrigo Mora, are ready to present Milan with their first official written offer following days of contacts: a loan with an option to buy. Porto had promised Milan this proposal of a free loan with an option to buy. The player has already given the green light, he already has an agreement with Porto and is now waiting for an agreement between the clubs before flying to Portugal. In the coming hours, Porto will formalise the proposal and, if everything goes as it should, the deal will be completed. I believe Porto will offer a free loan, but they will take responsibility for his wages, which are nevertheless significant. Essentially, Porto would take on Gimenez’s salary without paying a loan fee. We will see what Milan ask for: there will be discussions over the figures and conditions of the loan, and then all the details of the operation will be finalised. There is great optimism surrounding this deal.”
Gimenez has already said yes to Porto
The Mexican’s position appears to be quite clear: an agreement with Porto is already in place. Gimenez is now waiting for Milan and the Dragões to reach the necessary agreement to complete the transfer.
This is an important step, as the player has already given his approval to the move. However, the more concrete part of the deal, an agreement between the two clubs, still needs to be finalised.
Milan-Porto: the key issue is the buy option
According to the reports, Porto should propose a loan with no immediate fee, while taking on the cost of El Bebote‘s wages, which have nevertheless been described as significant.
Milan will therefore need to assess, above all, the conditions and figures surrounding the option to buy. This is expected to be one of the main points of discussion between the clubs over the coming hours. It is unlikely that Milan would accept a free loan without an option to buy being subject to specific conditions.
The negotiations have therefore entered a decisive stage. Porto are preparing their official offer, Gimenez is waiting for the green light, and Milan will have to evaluate the proposal.
The impression conveyed by Romano and Moretto is clear: there is considerable optimism, and the deal could genuinely be completed.
